In a bid to enhance education and community development, the Kebbi Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), led by Comptroller Iheanacho Ernest Ojike, has donated writing materials and food supplies to over 1,700 pupils of Gwandu Emirate Model Primary School in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.

The event, held on Tuesday, 10 December 2024, formed part of the Command’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at supporting education and empowering future leaders.

During the visit, Comptroller Ojike distributed essential learning materials, including books, pencils, and pens, alongside foodstuffs to alleviate the economic burdens faced by many of the pupils’ families. Addressing the young beneficiaries, Ojike underscored the importance of education as a cornerstone of national development, urging the pupils to remain committed to their studies.

He also took the opportunity to explain the mandate of the Nigeria Customs Service as enshrined in the relevant extant laws. Highlighting the Service’s role in safeguarding the nation’s economy, Ojike warned of the dangers of smuggling and encouraged the pupils to grow into responsible, law-abiding citizens.

The headmaster of the school, Aminu Sani, expressed profound gratitude for the support, describing it as a significant boost to the pupils’ academic endeavours. “This generous gesture from the Nigeria Customs Service not only equips our pupils with essential tools for learning but also demonstrates that Customs is a compassionate and socially responsible institution,” Sani remarked.

The Galadiman Gwandu, Alhaji Ibrahim Bashir, who represented the Gwandu Emirate Council at the event, conveyed the Emir of Gwandu’s appreciation to Comptroller Ojike and his team. He commended the initiative, noting that such efforts foster goodwill and strengthen the relationship between government agencies and local communities.
