The Nigeria Customs Service, Kebbi Command, has generated revenue of N36,223,554.50 for the third quarter of 2024, highlighting its steadfast commitment to meeting its revenue target.

Speaking at a media briefing held at the Command Headquarters in Birnin-Kebbi on Friday, 25 October 2024, Comptroller Iheanacho Ojike stated that within the period under review, the Command seized goods with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N323,065,567.

According to him, the items seized are “367 bales of secondhand clothing, 16,300 litres of PMS, 74 cartons of various medicaments, 180 pieces of donkey skin, and two litres of oxidised nitric acid.

” “Additional items included a DAF truck and a Toyota Corolla used for smuggling activities.” He added. The Customs Area Controller outlined the Command’s strategies for both revenue generation and suppression of smuggling across Kebbi State. He stated that Five suspects connected to these seizures were apprehended and are currently on administrative bail, and investigations are ongoing. The CAC disclosed that the Command has initiated a series of stakeholder engagements, educating trading communities on customs regulations and the need for compliance. “Our efforts have been deliberate, bringing all trading communities together to stress compliance and the importance of avoiding products that could harm public health or damage the economy,” Ojike stated. He noted that a key development to increasing revenue includes the expected reopening of the Tsamiya-Sebgana border as a one-stop border post.  In a display of interagency collaboration, the CAC handed over 180 pieces of donkey skin and 74 cartons of medicaments to the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Services (NAQS) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for appropriate actions. He explained that the move aligns with Customs’ commitment to fostering strong inter-agency relationships under the CGC’s mandate. Ojike issued a strong warning to smugglers, stating that his officers are equipped and ready to thwart smuggling activities and ensure that Kebbi State remains free from the menace. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s economy and contributing to national development through rigorous enforcement and strategic revenue collection.
