Nigeria Customs Receives Award of Excellence at GOVTECH Conference 2024

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on 11 October, 2024 was recognised for its innovative use of technology at the Nigeria GOVTECH Conference and Awards 2024, held at the NICON Luxury Hotel, Abuja. The prestigious event, which brought together key stakeholders from both the public and private sectors, celebrated institutions that have made significant advances in government operations through technology.
The NCS was honoured with the award for “Best Federal MDA in Innovative Use of Technology,” acknowledging its exceptional achievements in leveraging digital tools to enhance customs operations, increase revenue generation, and strengthen national security. This recognition highlights the Service’s commitment to modernisation, aligning with global standards in customs administration.
A highlight of the evening was the personal recognition of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, who was presented with the “Distinguished GOVTECH Trailblazers Award.”
The award according to the organisers celebrates public sector leaders who have championed the adoption of technology to drive reform and improve governance. According to them “Under CGC Adeniyi’s leadership, the NCS has implemented several key reforms, including the adoption of digital solutions that have enhanced border security, streamlined trade facilitation, and significantly improved customs efficiency”
In his acceptance speech, CGC Adeniyi who was represented by Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs (DCG) incharge of Financial, Administration and Technical Services, Mohammed Jibo reiterated the Service’s dedication to technological innovation as a means of strengthening Nigeria’s economic security and facilitating trade. “NCS would continue to explore cutting-edge technologies to improve service delivery and meet the demands of a rapidly evolving global trade landscape”. He emphasised.
The Nigeria GOVTECH Conference and Awards 2024 provided a platform to showcase the technological advancements made by various government institutions. The NCS, through its initiatives, has become a leader in utilising technology to transform public sector operations, ensuring Nigeria’s borders are secure and that trade is effectively managed in a global economy increasingly driven by digital innovation.
