Kwara Customs Command Launches Work-Life Balance Initiative to Promote Officers’ Well-Being

By Ammatu-Muiz Owolabi

The Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Kwara Command, Comptroller Faith Ojeifo, on 3 October 2024, led a team of officers in a monthly exercise as part of the newly introduced Work-Life Balance initiative by the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi.

In a statement signed immediately after the exercise by the Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Customs Zakari Chado, it was noted that during his opening remarks, Comptroller Ojeifo emphasised the importance of the initiative, stating that it is designed to keep officers fit, reduce stress and anxiety, and improve mental alertness. He announced that the exercise will take place twice a month, specifically on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays, to encourage regular physical activity among officers.

Comptroller Ojeifo issued a stern warning to those who failed to participate in the exercise, stressing that accountability will be enforced to prevent future non-participation. To promote unity and camaraderie, the CAC also instructed all officers to adhere to a dress code of simple sportswear for the activities.

According to the statement, the Work-Life Balance initiative featured a variety of sports, including football, table tennis, and lawn tennis, with the participation of sectional and unit heads.

In an effort to extend the initiative beyond the command headquarters, the CAC directed officers at border stations and outstations to replicate the exercise within their respective teams. This ensures that all personnel, regardless of location, benefit from the physical and mental health advantages the programme offers.

“The Work-Life Balance initiative is a proactive step initiated by CGC Adewale Adeniyi towards improving the overall health and morale of the officers and men of the service, and the Kwara Customs Command will not be an exception,” Comptroller Ojeifo emphasised, noting that this initiative paves the way for a more effective and resilient workforce within the Nigeria Customs Service.
