Abducted UNIABUJA Professors, Four Others Rescued

The six persons abducted from the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) in the Federal Capital Territory abducted by gunmen on Tuesday morning from their University of Abuja staff quarters, have regained freedom. The spokesperson of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command DSP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the victims were rescued by a joint team of operatives from various security agencies.

It had been reported how two professors, a non-academic staff, and three others were abducted from their official quarters. The hoodlums numbering over 20 were said to have shot their way into the compound and whisked away their victims. Twenty-four hours later, they demanded N300 million ransom.

It could not be confirmed whether ransom was paid before the victims were reportedly rescued by the police.

VP Osinbajo Promises Nigeria’s Insecurity to be Over ‘In Due Course’

Responding to comments from members of the Muhammadu Buhari/Osinbajo Dynamic Support Group, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo promised in Abuja on Thursday that “a lot of the security challenges we experience in Nigeria today will be resolved in due course”.
“This country will be stronger and greater,” VP Osinbajo said.
“We must never relent in ensuring that we keep to the ideals of the country and we don’t lose sight of what we are trying to achieve here.”
The VP also used the opportunity to praise President Muhammadu Buhari, “The president has always remained steadfast and focused in resolving the problems of the country beginning with security”.
Osinbajo also called for the unity of Nigerians, regardless of their religious affiliations and ethnic backgrounds.

“The unity of this country is important for all of the different ethnicities, religions, everybody. Whatever the group or ideology, unity is important for every one of us,” he continued.
“It is wrong for a country that is the largest economy in Africa and definitely going to be one of the largest economies in the world, to start thinking in terms of fragmenting itself.
“If you fragment, the problems are going to multiply, poverty will multiply.”

NCOS Confirms Gunmen Attack on Jos Correctional Service

The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) has confirmed an attack on the Jos Correctional centre by gunmen on Sunday.

the National Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the service, Francis Enobore, confirmed the incident in a statement issued to newsmen in Jos.

According to Enobore, the gunmen invaded the prison yard at about 5:20 p.m. He said the Jos prison came under attack as gunmen, who pretended to be on a visit to the facility engaged the officials in a shootout at the gate, to gain access into the facility.

It will be recalled that some inmates had earlier this year escaped from the facility that is situated in the heart of Jos City and were yet to be recaptured. The recent attack left yet to be ascertained number of persons dead and some inmates were said to have escaped, following the confusion that ensued although unconfirmed report has it that about five inmates were recaptured as they tried to escape.
