FG Has Identified Terrorism Sponsors in Nigeria Says Malami

The federal government has successfully blocked terrorism financing in Nigeria, the attorney general of the federation and minister of justice, Abubakar Malami, has said.

Malami further stated that the federal government had also succeeded in identifying and detaining “high profile individuals” responsible for funding terrorists’ activities in the country.

The agf had announced in may that the Nigerian government was about to begin the prosecution of about 400 suspected boko haram financiers and was profiling some high-profile Nigerians strongly suspected to be financing terrorism for prosecution.

Although the delay in their prosecution and unveiling of the suspects have been criticised in certain quarters, but malami assured that the federal government is determined to take stringent measures to counter insurgency in the country.

The chief law officer of Nigeria, however, said the issue of terrorism financing was a work in progress and would not like to be pre-emptive in terms of investigation and the minister recalled that Nigeria had recovered 322 million dollars from Switzerland in 2017 and 311 million dollars from the u.s. In 2020.

Lekki Shooting Survivors Drag FG to ECOWAS Court

As #EndSARS protesters commemorate the first anniversary of the protest that erupted from Ughelli, Delta State, to other parts of the country over police brutality and extra-judicious killings, three victims of the protest have sued the Federal Government at the ECOWAS Court for justice.

This was revealed by lawyers from three chambers on Thursday, in a document signed by four lawyers including Bolaji Gabari, Mojirayo Ogunlana-Nkanga, Gaye Sowe, and Nelson Olanipekun, and made available during a virtually held press conference on the matter.

According to the lawyers their service is purely pro-bono to the three applicants who approached them, and also explained why the applicants approached the ECOWAS Court, which is a regional court that adjudicates cases within its jurisdiction of member states in West Africa sub-region, and it is known for its neutrality and adherence to international standards in adjudicating cases.

The lawyers, who addressed a press conference on Thursday in commemoration of the one-year anniversary of the historic #EndSARS protest, said the survivors have asked to remain anonymous to prevent victimization as they have suffered untold psychological trauma owing to the gory event.

They also pointed out that justices that comprise the panel at the ECOWAS Court are judges with various international experiences, and not one judge that will adjudicate on the matter brought to them, which that the court has lived up to its name as it would analyse the issues and facts before it, would give an international standard judgment, and has the boldness in determining cases without being influenced, and its judgment will have a ripple effect.

They also stated that the three applicants who approached them are seeking justice, and have declared that the Nigerian State has violated her obligations under the Nigerian Constitution, International laws and most especially the African Charter.
