HFN Caretaker Committee Chairman, Ocheho Elected First Nigerian President of CAHB Zone 3

Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) Mr. Samuel Ocheho has been elected president of the Confederation of Africa Handball Zone 3.

The election which held virtually via zoom in a Congress on Thursday saw Mr. Ocheho was voted unopposed by 8 votes to none to lead the regional handball governing body.

He thus becomes the first Nigeria to be elected president of the CAHB Zone 3 which comprises of Nigeria, Niger, Benin, Togo, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Liberia and Cote’d’Voire.

Ocheho, who said he is excited that the zone decided to bestow him with the honour of electing him, promised to lead the zone to achieve feats that has never been achieved before with emphasis on the development and enhanced growth of the sport in the region.

“I am excited that the Zone decided to elect me to lead them. It is victory, not just for me but the Nigeria Handball Family and for the nation itself as I am the first Nigerian to be elected president.” Ocheho said

“This is a call to duty and our emphasis will be on the development and growth of handball in the region.

We will also create awareness on the essence of handball and how it can be used to empower our youths in the region to greater height” Ocheho concludes.

Mr. Samuel Ocheho, who was the President and now Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) after the dissolution of national sport federations by Ministry of Sports, have introduced unprecedented innovation that has made Handball one of the growing sports in the country as against years of neglect.

Aisha Buhari Tourney: Bar. Edeh Proud Of ‘Fabulous’ Falcons, Hails Organisers.

President of Ratels Sports Development Foundation (RSDF), Barrister Paul Edeh on wednesday praised the organisers of Aisha Buhari Tournament for doing a great job he simply described as ‘extraordinary’.

The ‘six’ nation tournament kicked off on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, with the Super Falcons getting a 2-0 victory over the ‘Les Aiglonnes’ of Mali at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Onikan, Lagos.

The philanthropist and brain behind the biggest Women’s Football Pre season Tournament in Africa (Flying Officers Cup) also gave kudos to the President of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Melvin Pinnick; Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu; and the members of the Organising Committee headed by NFF First Vice President, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi, for a job well executed.

The United Nations SDG Peace Ambassador also went further to congratulate African Champions, Super Falcons of Nigeria for its well deserved victory over Malians senior women National team, and wished the team well ahead of their final game against Bayana Bayana of South Africa next Tuesday.

2021 NWFL Premiership topscorer Monday Gift smashed home two late goals at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena to seal victory for the host and an excited Edeh highlighted that Monday’s brace has shown how strong the NWFL Premiership has become under Aisha Falode.

“No doubt, I am excited over her brace and the fact that the Super Falcons earned a comfortable victory. The NWFL Premiership is one of the best in the world and that’s why the league keeps producing great players.

“The Organisation of the tournament is one of the best I have seen so far, and kudos must go to the NFF President, Amaju Pinnick and the Local Organizing Committee, under the leadership of Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi.

“I was really optimistic that we were going to have a perfect organisation before the tournament and am glad the LOC have surpassed people’s expectations.

The opening ceremony of the maiden Aisha Buhari Tournament was attended by FIFA President, Gianni Infantino; CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe; and other football big wigs.

Six nations are participating at the inaugural edition; Mali, South Africa, Ghana, Morocco, and Cameroon alongside host, Nigeria.

Enyimba Announce Finidi George as Head Coach

Former Super Eagles winger, Finidi George has been announced as head Coach by 8 times NPFL champions, Enyimba of Aba after both parties signed a two-year contract ahead of new NPFL season.

Finidi succeeds Fatai Osho who departed the club at the end of the 2020/2021 NPFL season.

The former Real Betis winger who is a legend in Nigeria football had 62 Caps for the Super Eagles in an illustrious playing career that lasted up to fifteen years.

He was part of the Nigeria Golden generation that won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia and went on to do Nigeria proud in the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cups.

The River State born winger joined Ajax of Netherlands from Sharks FC of Port-Hacourt where he became a leading figure in a team which that won eight major titles, including the 1995 Champions League.

He also played several years in Spain with Real Betis, and had a brief spell in England before retiring. Finidi ventured into coaching after he retired from active football and bagged his UEFA coaching licence from Spanish FA.

The young coach is expected to be in the dugout of Enyimba as head coach when they face Diambers FC of Senegal in the CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round fixture in October.

Andy Murray is out of the Rennes Open after a punishing 6-2 4-6 6-1 defeat to Roman Safiullin in the last 16.

The world number 116 was sluggish in the first set but hit back to take the second against the big-serving Russian. Seeded fifth, Murray had hoped for a run of games in France, attracting large crowds for his two matches.

But an unfortunate net cord at break point down in the third set broke his resistance and Safiullin ran away with the match. Murray, 34, was impressed in the first round and wanted to build his ranking with a good run in this ATP Challenger event.
