Scott Carson Signs One-Year Contract with Man City

Scott Carson has signed a one-year contract with the reigning Premier League champions.

The 35-year-old goalkeeper joins the Blues as a free agent after seeing his deal at Derby expire.

The veteran shot-stopper has taken in just one competitive appearance for City since first linking up with them in 2019 – with that solitary outing coming against Newcastle back in May – but he is a reliable back-up option behind Ederson and Zack Steffen.

The 23-year-old signed a four-year deal that will keep him at the Emirates until 2025 after passing a medical, and will now join up with his new team-mates ahead of the Gunners’ latest pre-season friendly against Chelsea on Sunday.

Manchester United Denies Having Positive Case Within 1st Team Training Group

Manchester United have confirmed there are no positive Covid cases within the first team training group after a scare on Thursday.

Players and staff are routinely tested and results on Thursday taken by lateral flow tests showed a small group, which included players and staff, had tested positive for the virus.

That group isolated while they awaited results of a PCR test, but are all now allowed back into the training ground after further testing showed they are negative.

The players and staff were tested after the game against Brentford, as is routine, and a small number of the lateral flow tests came back positive.

The club consequently issued a statement explaining there were suspected positive Covid cases in the group and their pre-season clash against Preston North End, due to be played on Saturday, was called off.

Novak Djokovic Ousted from Tokyo 2020 Games in Semifinal Stage

Top-ranked Novak Djokovic had his dreams of tennis gold dashed on Friday while Ethiopia’s Selemon Barega felled the reigning world 10,000 metres champion, on a day of upsets that saw doping allegations surface at the swimming pool.

The Serbian was aiming to become the first man to complete the Golden Slam – Olympic gold and all four majors in the same year – but was undone by fifth-ranked German Alexander Zverev who came back strong after conceding the first set.

The two men embraced briefly at the net and Zverev appeared to sob into his towel.

In the first final of the athletics programme, Barega sprinted the last lap to leave Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei, who also holds the 10,000m world record, trailing.

As viewer data suggested Tokyo 2020 has so far been less watched than other recent Games, the day was also marked by crashes on the BMX track, including one that saw 28-year-old American favourite Connor Fields rushed to hospital.
