Nigerian Afro-Fusion Superstar, Töme, Bags Award at Canadian Juno Awards

Afro-fusion Queen, Michelle Akanbi, popular as Tome, has clinched the prestigious Juno Award for Reggae Recording of the year.

The French-Canadian singer of Nigerian origins bagged the award for her hit single, “IPray” which featured Jamaican Singer, Sean Kingston, at the award’s golden jubilee.

Tome joins the list of global superstars like Harry Styles, The Weeknd, Celine Dion, Justin Bieber, Drake, Nelly Furtado, among others who have been recipients of the Canadian award.

The Juno Awards is presented annually by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (CARAS) to Canadian musical artists & bands to acknowledge their artistic & technical achievements in all aspects of music.

Her debut album, Bigger Than Four Walls, was released last year, with the Reggae-heavy hit, ‘I pray’, already attracting the spotlight with awards.

Gone Girl Actress Lisa Banes, Dies Aged 65 After Being Struck by Scooter

American actress, Lisa Banes, aged 65 has died 10 days after being injured in a hit-and-run accident in New York City, police have confirmed.

The Gone Girl actress was struck by a motorized scooter in a hit-and-run that took place on June 4. Ms Banes was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside hospital with a traumatic brain injury and died on Monday, June 14.
Banes was crossing the road when she was struck by a scooter. The driver of the scooter fled the scene and is currently being searched for by police.

Banes was best known for starring in 2014’s Gone Girl alongside Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, playing Marybeth Elliott. In 1988, the actress starred alongside Tom Cruise in the movie Cocktail.

U.S Actor, Ned Beatty Dies Aged 83

U.S actor Ned Beatty, known for his roles in Superman, Toystory3 and many other films, has died at the age of 83.

According to his manager, Beatty died from natural causes “surrounded by his family and loved ones”.

Born in Kentucky in 1937, Beatty was Oscar-nominated in 1977 for playing a corporate CEO in Network, a role he filmed in a single day.
