Gunmen Kill Jonathan’s Former Aide, Gulak

Gunmen have reportedly killed a former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Gulak in Umueze-Obiangwu Community along Sam Mbakwe Airport Road in Owerri, Imo State.

According to sources, Gulak was heading to the airport when the assailants attacked him. Gulak was followed from his hotel room to the spot where he was killed.

A friend of Gulak, Dr. Umar Arɗo, confirmed the incident on Sunday.

We have paid N6bn Gratuity Arrears Since 2017 says Akeredolu

Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo state says his administration has paid about N6 billion of gratuity arrears inherited from previous administrations since 2017.

Akeredolu, made this known on Tuesday in Akure during a courtesy visit by the national pension commission.

Akeredolu disclosed that the state government would soon constitute a pension board.

He stated that the board would boost the contributory pension scheme.

He applauded the commission on the enforcement of regulatory policies in the country to ensure compliance by the states.

House of Reps Begins Probe on Twitter Ban

The house of representatives on Tuesday commenced its probe into the Twitter ban by the federal government.

Recall that speaker of the house of representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila had swung into action upon resumption from the Sallah break by mandating the house joint committees on information communication and justice to invite the minister of information to explain the reason for Twitter Ban in the country.

National assembly correspondent, Eunice Johnson reports that at the probe organised in Abuja by the house joint committees, the minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed explained that the federal government only suspended twitter and it was not banned as earlier reported.

Extension of 2nd NAP will Enhance Implementation says Minister

The federal government says extension of the second National Action Plan (NAP) to August 2022 will enhance its implementation with better results on the country’s economy.

Prince Clement Agba, minister of state, finance, budget and national planning disclosed this on Tuesday in Abuja, during the second quarter meeting of the plan thematic working group.

Agba said that implementation of the second NAP scheduled to end in 2021, was extended by one year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said that the pandemic slowed down the implementation and government decided to extend it by one year during the international steering committee meeting.

Dr Anne Nzegwu, national coordinator, open government partnership (OGP), said that the second NAP has 16 commitments in seven thematic areas.

Nzegwu said the thematic areas include; fiscal transparency, extractive transparency, anti-corruption, access to information, citizens engagement, inclusion, diversity and service delivery.
