Bill On Bitumen Training Institute’ll Be Passed, Says Ondo Senator

The Senator representing the Ondo South Senatorial District, Nicholas Tofowomo, on Tuesday, expressed optimism that the proposed bill to establish a Bitumen Training Institute would be passed by the Senate.
The bill which has passed first reading at the upper chamber of the National Assembly, was sponsored by the Ondo Senator.
It was gathered that after the bill has been passed and signed into law, the training institute would be sited at Ode Aye in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Tofowomo, who was on fact-finding mission to Ode Aye to aid the legislative passage of the proposed bill, said the bitumen was seen oozing in many areas in the local government.
He said, “I have come to see things myself in preparation for the second reading of my bill on the establishment of Bitumen Institute in Ode Aye. This is Bitumen coming out from the soil live here in Idogun Quarter, Ode Aye. This is reality. I can see with my two eyes the reality of Bitumen oozing out from the soil of Aye Kingdom.
“Having a bitumen institute here in Ode Aye will allow us to take advantage of the second largest bitumen deposit in the whole world and it will be very meaningful if the bill is passed with timeliness.
“I am happy I saw this myself, it is not a third party report. This is not magic but reality. I would do my best for the successful passage of the bill. And let me use this opportunity to seek the support of my colleagues and the leadership of the senate for the timely passage of this bill.”
The state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, had earlier disclosed that the exploitation of bitumen would soon kick off in Agbabu Community,

Aisha Buhari Is a Voice Of Conscience Calling Politicians To Be Better –Tinubu

All Progressives Congress chieftain, Bola Tinubu, says wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, is a voice of conscience calling politicians to be their better selves.
He also said Mrs Buhari played an active role during the 2015 and 2019 elections and has continued to enrich the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), with her contributions.
Tinubu stated this on Thursday at the public presentation of the biography of Mrs. Aisha at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The book, “Aisha Buhari: Being different,” was written by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Administration and Women Affairs, Dr Hajo Sani.
Tinubu, a former Lagos State governor, chaired the occasion on Thursday.
He said, “Given the First Lady’s achievement, no one can reasonably question the role of a First Lady any longer. Remember that there were those who argued that the constitution does not assign any official role to the First Lady. With Mrs Dr Aisha Buhari, their concerns have been forever laid to rest.
“First lady has played an uplifting, unifying role both in symbol and substance. She has been a voice of conscience calling us to be of our better self for the good of the nation and for the vulnerable among us.”
Buhari, who is currently in London for routine medical check-up, is not available for the presentation that attracted dignitaries from across the country.
He is, however, being represented by his Chief of Staff, Prof Ibrahim Gambari.
But currently gracing the event are Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo; his wife, Dolapo.
Others attending are the Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege; and Mrs Folorunsho Alakija who is the Special Guest of Honour.
The royal fathers of the day are the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; and the Egbere Emere Okori Eleme, King Appolus Chu.

The Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, on Wednesday charged the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria to enforce the acceptable financial management and reporting standards in ministries, departments and agencies of government.

It read in part, “He (Idris) saluted the courage of the FRCN in its determination to ensure compliance with internationally acceptable financial management and reporting standards, and advised that enforcement of the policy should be holistic to ensure optimal compliance by public and private entities.”
The auditor-general also pledged that his agency would ensure the timely production of Federal Government’s general purpose financial statements.
He stated that in compliance with the extant rules and regulations guiding its operations, the Federal Government treasury had bridged the hitherto deficit in the production of the Federal Government’s financial statements. Sports Festival Continues, FG Counters Edo Govt

The Federal Government says activities at the ongoing National Sports Festival in Edo State will continue as planned.
This is against the earlier announcement by the Local Organising Committee that the festival will end abruptly 12noon on Thursday (today) over lack of fund.
FG made its position known in a by Ramon Balogun, Assistant Director Press. Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, on Thursday morning.
The statement read, “The Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has clarified that the 20th National Sports Festival, Edo 2020, is going on as planned with competitions going on as scheduled.
“The Ministry and the Main Organizing Committee for the festival are unaware of any plans or threat by the Edo State Government to shut down the sports festival as there has been no official meeting or communication that relayed such information.
“The Honorable Minister, Permanent Secretary and Directors are on ground in Benin City where the Festival is holding, and it is expected that the Edo State Government would formally invite the Ministry for a meeting should any urgency exist around the National Sports Festival or communicate officially with the Main Organizing Committee for the festival. The Ministry has no such communication.
“For the records, the Edo State government due to the cost implications of postponements occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic requested financial assistance from the Federal government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.
“The Ministry has since been at work to secure the financial assistance which it believes is being processed. The MYSD and EDSG are determined to deliver a successful National Sports Festival.” Edo State had raised the alarm over the Federal Government’s failure to provide fund 24 hours to the commencement of the festival.
