In mid-March, Georgia began a national vaccination campaign by inoculating medical workers with AstraZeneca’s jab.

The authorities in Georgia have so far ruled out any further anti-virus curbs.

Deputy Health Minister Tamar Gabunia said on Monday there was “no need at this point” for further anti-pandemic restrictions.

In May last year, Georgia lifted its coronavirus lockdown and allowed shops to reopen, but a night-time curfew has remained in place.

The Federal Government has invited the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), for an emergency meeting scheduled for Tuesday, April 6, 2021, to discuss how to stop the planned industrial action.

A statement released Monday, by Ben Bem Goong, Director of Press in the Federal Ministry of Education, said, the Minister of Education Adamu Adamu, has invited ASUP to an emergency meeting following the threat to begin another round of strike.

Goong recalled that ASUP had issued a notice of strike over what the union described as the refusal of government to execute some of the agreements entered into between them and the Federal Government.

The looming strike came barely four months after the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) called off a nine-month-old strike over demands for improved remuneration and working conditions.
