HEALTH : Stop Self-denial, Medic Cautions Nigerians

As the second wave COVID-19 infections continue to spike, the Chairman, Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Ministerial Experts Advisory Committee on COVID-19, Dr. Ejike Oji has admonished Nigerians to wake up to reality and desist from self-denial over the existence of the COVID-19 virus.

Oji, who lamented the spike in new cases and deaths in the country in recent times said persons who live in denial for so long, tend to find out the truth when it is too late and they have come down with the infection and need to go for treatment.
He said it was far more rewarding to be more conscious of the risks of COVID-19 infection, and take preventive measures and it’s potential health effects and socio-economic impact.

COVID-19: Death Toll Surpasses 100,000 in Africa

Africa has recorded more than 100,000 deaths from Covid-19, an uninviting milestone likely to devalue the real toll, as the continent of 1.2 billion people battles the second wave of infections.
The 54 countries in the region have a death toll of 100,000 from 3,793,660 reported cases, according to an AFP record.

Liberia On Heightened Alert After Guinea Ebola Deaths

Liberian President George Weah on Sunday put the country’s health authorities on heightened alert after four people died of Ebola in neighbouring Guinea, the first resurgence of the disease in five years.
Weah mandated the Liberian health authorities and related stakeholders in the sector to heighten the country’s surveillance and preventative activities in the wake of reports of the emergence of the deadly Ebola virus disease in neighbouring Guinea, his office said in a statement.

Guinea’s Health Minister, Remy Lamah told the Press on Saturday that four people had died of Ebola, the first deaths since a 2013-2016 epidemic which began in Guinea killed 11,300 people across the region.
According to Weah’s statement on Sunday, the new deaths occurred in Guinean town of Gouecke close to Liberia’s northeastern border.
