Buhari Commends Army, Masari for Successful Rescue of Schoolboys

President Muhammadu Buhari has commended the Nigerian Army for organizing a successful rescue operation of hundreds of schoolboys abducted from Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State.

President Buhari Stated this in two-part short video posted via his verified Twitter handle, on Friday morning.

He also commended the Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari, for being up and doing since the abduction of the schoolboys while noting that his regime and the military have a lot of work to do regarding insecurity in the country.

Recall that Masari had on Thursday night confirmed the release of 344 abducted schoolboys.

The schoolboys arrived Katsina State this morning and were reportedly escorted into the state capital by heavily armed security operatives.

FG Approve the Appointment of Dr Abdulkarim Ali Obaje as National Coordinator of FCSU

Nigeria’s government has approved the appointment of Dr Abdulkarim Ali Obaje, as the national coordinator (NC) for Federal Cares Support Unit, Nigeria Covid-19 action recovery and economic stimulus (NG-cares) being implemented in the 36 states of the federation and the FCT.

The appointment has been endorsed by the world bank Nigeria office.

The disclosure was contained in the appointment letter, signed by the minister of state, budget and national planning, clem agba, where he noted that the appointment was based on Dr Obaje’s track record of service to previous world bank supported programmes of the Nigerian government.

The minister, who is also the chairman of the ng-cares steering committee, urged him to bring to bear his wealth of experience on his new assignment as this would justify the confidence reposed in him by the federal government.

Obaje on the other hand appreciated the federal government and the minister of state for finding him worthy of such highly esteemed national assignment and pledged to discharge his duties with all sense of commitment, patriotism and loyalty.

Nigeria Needs Urgent Economic Diversification – AfDB

The African Development Bank (AfDB), has stated that Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy, needs urgent economic diversification to move the country from a single income source (oil and minerals) towards multiple income sources.

This was disclosed by Prof. Oyelaran-Oyeyinka Oyebanji, Senior Special Adviser on Industrialisation at African Development Bank, at the 22nd Founder’s Day Lecture of the Igbinedion University, on Monday.

In pursuit of long-term recovery and sustainable development, Nigeria needs urgent economic diversification. Nothing is more demonstrative of the danger of over-reliance on a single or narrow range of commodities than the recent crash in oil price we saw in 2020 due to COVID-19, he said.

Economic diversification entails a shift away from a single income source (oil and minerals) toward multiple income sources from an increasing spectrum of sectors, products and markets, Oyebanji stated.

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th May, 2021 as Public Holidays to mark this year’s Eid Al-Fitr celebration.

The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Monday, while making the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government in Abuja, congratulated the Muslim faithful on this occasion and called on all Nigerians, at home and abroad to use this period to pray for peace, stability and economic transformation in the land.

Aregbesola who believes that development cannot thrive in a rancorous atmosphere, urged all Nigerians to be law-abiding and embrace the spirit of love and self-discipline.

He also called on all security agencies in the country to be more courageous and patriotic to surmount the ongoing battle against resurging insecurity and activities of criminal elements in Nigeria.
