Facebook Inc FB.O on Thursday said that its Whatsapp Messaging App would start to offer in-app purchases and hosting services, as it moves to boost revenue from the app while knitting together e-commerce infrastructure across the company.

The world’s biggest social media company has been trying to boost sales from higher-growth units such as Instagram and WhatsApp, which it bought in 2014 for $19 billion but has been slow to monetize.

With the changes, This will enable businesses sell products inside WhatsApp via Facebook shops, an online store launched in May to offer a unified shopping experience across Facebook’s apps.

The Company will also enter the cloud computing sector, offering firms who use its customer service messaging tools the ability to store those messages on face book servers.

Okonjo-Iweala Reacts After Emerging Forbes Africa Person of 2020

Nigeria’s former Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has been named Forbes Africa Person of the year 2020.

Reacting to the development, Okonjo-Iweala, who is hoping to become the first African and first woman to lead the world trade organization in its 25-year history, said she is excited by the prestigious award.

Nigerians who have bagged the award in the past include President of the African Development Bank, Akinwumi Adesina; ex-governor of the central bank of Nigeria, Muhammad Sanusi II; president of the dangote group, aliko dangote; amongst others.

Okonjo-Iweala, who has been the chair of board of global alliance for vaccines and immunization since January 2016, dedicated the award to all Africans.

Okonjo-Iweala is a strong contender in the race to being the WTO chair and the selection committee is expected to meet this month in Switzerland to pick a choice between her and Myung-Hee of South Korea.

Chimamanda Adichie Wins Women’s Prize for Fiction “Winner of Winners”.

Chimamanda Adichie’s novel half of a yellow sun has been voted the best book to have won the women’s prize for fiction in its 25-year history.

The Nigerian-born author, who won the prize in 2007, was chosen in a public vote from a list of all 25 winners.

Other past winners include Zadie Smith, the late Andrea Levy, Lionel Shriver, Rose Tremain and Maggie O’farrell.

The one-off award marks the anniversary of the prize, formerly known as the orange prize and the bailey’s prize.

Half of a yellow sun is set in Nigeria during the Biafran war, exploring the end of colonialism, ethnic allegiances, class, race and female empowerment. Published in 2006, it has received global acclaim.

It was made into a film starring Chiwetel Ejiofor and Thandie newton in 2013.

More than 8,500 people voted, and were invited to share their thoughts with the prize’s digital book club, accessing newly created online reading guides and author interviews.

At least nine Nigerian-Americans are on the ballot in Tuesday’s November 3rd general elections in the united states.

Running mostly on the platform of the US democratic party, the candidates are bidding for different offices at the federal, state and local levels.

The presidential election and governorship polls will hold in 11 states and two territories in addition to other state and local elections.

Congressional elections are also holding on Tuesday with all the 435 seats in the us house of representatives, and 35 of the 100 seats in the senate vacant.
