FG Approves Five-Point Demand By EndSars Protesters

The Presidency has approved the five-point demand from Nigerians, who have been protesting against the FSARS Unit across the country since last week.

This was contained in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.

According to him, the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, organized a meeting with stakeholders, where he agreed to meet demands, which include halting the use of force against protesters and the unconditional release of arrested citizens.

A statement signed by the IGP, Mohammed Adamu, and Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission, Tony Ojukwu, Esq, read in part: “Following the dissolution of SARS, the Forum calls for the following immediate steps to be taken in restoring public confidence and trust in the Police: An order by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to all State Commands to halt the use of force against protesters; Unconditional release of arrested protesters and citizens; Open communication and outreach to citizens to establish trust and confidence and a road map for the implementation of the White Paper of the Presidential Panel on the Reform of the SARS.”

It added that: “The Forum recommends the psychological evaluation, training, and retraining of disbanded SARS officials before re-deployment.”

Customs: KLT Command Generates N15.7bn in 9 Months

KLT CUSTOMS AREA COMMAND

The Customs Area Controller of KLT Command, Comptroller M.O. Oladunni on Tuesday informed members of the media, that the command had generated fifteen point seven billion naira by the end of September 2020 already surpassing the fifteen point one billion made for the year 2019.

This significant increase was achieved despite the pre and post Covid-19 pandemic effects.

During the media briefing the following seizures were also displayed;
* 1 x 40 ft. laden with 254 cartons of tramadol (100mg) concealed with other drugs.
* 1x 40 ft. laden with used tyres
* 1 x 40 ft. laden with foreign pasta products
* 1x 40 laden with aerosols.
* 1 x 40 ft. laden with tomato ketchup.
* 1x 40 ft. laden with hydro generated oil.
* 1 x 40 ft. laden with foreign bags of rice, condiments and Shawarma bread

With duty paid value of over 229 million naira.
The area controller appreciated all stakeholders for using the KLT Command facilities despite the numerous challenges encountered but urged them to be honest with their declarations in order to enjoy seamless operations at the command.

Plateau begins trial of 300 suspected looters

The Plateau State Government on Wednesday begun the prosecution of over 300 suspected looters and arsonists in the state.
They were accused of looting, criminal trespass and inciting public disturbance, among other charges.
The suspects, who had been in military and police detention after they were arrested in different parts of Jos and the Bukuru metropolis between Saturday and Sunday, were moved to the Bassa Local Government Area on Wednesday for arraignment.

The defendants were arraigned one after the other at Jebbu Bassa Area Court before several judges including Justices N S Dashe, Adar Roseline Baraje, and L B Longs as well as Lawal Sulaiman, among others.

In all the cases brought before the judges, the prosecutors from the state Ministry of Justice told the court that the accused persons committed the offences against the state and should be prosecuted according to the law.
The defence counsels, however, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy for the accused persons, particularly as they were first offenders.
The defence counsels also pleaded for short sentencing with an option of fine after their clients pleaded guilty to the offences.

FG to Install One Million Electricity Meters Across Nigeria

The Federal government of Nigeria on Monday said it would install at least one million Electricity Meters in the residents of unmetered electricity consumers before the end of this year.

Minister of power, Sale Mamman, said this in a series of tweets posted via the official twitter handle of the office of the minister of power.

Mamman said the president, Muhammadu Buhari had directed a mass metering Programme for the power sector starting immediately.

The Minister stated that the Federal government was creating job opportunities for Nigerian youths in the power sector through key programmes.

He said the five million solar home system project, mass metering scheme, among others, were some of the projects.

Mamman, who disclosed this during a stakeholder meeting in Jalingo, Taraba state, addressed youths on the need to foster peace and harmony.
