The Award Winners Of The 2019-20 English Premier League Season

The curtain was drawn on the 2019-20 English Premier League season as the most unusual campaign in living memory came to a dramatic climax on Sunday.

Manchester United and Chelsea beat Leicester and Wolverhampton Wanderers with similar 2-0 scorelines respectively to win the battle for the two remaining Champions League spots behind champions Liverpool and Manchester City.

At the other end of the table, three teams entered the final day fighting for one survival spot but it was Aston Villa who survived the drop with a 1-1 draw with Everton.

Watford lost their topflight status with a 3-2 defeat at Arsenal and Bournemouth’s five-year stay in the Premier League came to an end despite a spirited 3-1 win over Everton at Goodison Park. Both teams will join Norwich City in next season’s Championship.

Meanwhile, champions Liverpool beat Newcastle to finish the season with 99 points but Manchester City’s 5-0 thumping of Norwich in David Silva’s last game in the English topflight ensured they finished 18 points behind the Reds meaning Liverpool couldn’t set a new record for the highest points difference between first and second (19).

Senator Ubah’s Purported Reelection As Anambra State FA Chairman

Chairmen of Nigerian Football, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau described the purported State FA elections which returned Senator Ifeanyi Ubah as chairman on Monday, 27 July 2020 as “a charade of very low grade” adding that the NFF would never recognize such a sham.

The Nigeria Football Federation has stated categorically that there has been no election into the executive committee of the Anambra State Football Association.

“That was an act of brigandage and the NFF fully dissociates itself from it. The Electoral Committee sent to the NFF a letter which they received from the Anambra State COVID-19 Task Force, requesting that the elections into the State FA and the local football councils be postponed, in line with the situation in the country, as the ban on sporting activities and mass gatherings was still alive.

ALSO READ:

“The same Electoral Committee issued a press statement on Monday, 27 July 2020 informing the general public that the elections would no longer hold, and regretted the inconvenience that the sudden postponement may have caused the candidates, delegates, observers, stakeholders and the general public.

“In view of these, it is incomprehensible how anyone could have gone ahead with the charade they are calling ‘election’, and you begin to wonder who actually conducted the so-called election,” Gusau said on Tuesday.

Gusau, who is also a member of the NFF Executive Committee, stated further: “That was an affront on the Government and the NFF will never be part of it. The Anambra State COVID-19 Task Force made it clear that there should be no such gathering. It is irksome, and let it be said without ambiguity that the NFF does not recognize such a sham and it cannot stand.”
