Three Oyo State Executive Council (EXCO) Test Positive For COVID-19
Three Oyo Executive Council members have tested positive for Coronavirus as confirmed by Governor Seyi Makinde on his twitter handle.
The Oyo state Governor further revealed that the test result conducted on two other members of the council came back inconclusive and will be conducted again.
Governor Seyi Makinde tweeted;
Earlier today, we received COVID-19 confirmation tests for all members of the Oyo State Executive Council (EXCO). Sadly, three tests came back positive, and two were inconclusive so they will need to be retested. pic.twitter.com/CTOmiVhxfN

The EXCO members have been contacted and contact tracing has begun. Also, their offices have been closed and will be decontaminated.
Let me reiterate that COVID-19 is still very much with us. That we are taking steps to re-open the economy, does not mean that the virus has disappeared. We must each take actions to protect ourselves and our families.

We must each own our actions and take preventive measures which include washing our hands with soap and water, wearing face masks whenever we are with other people and maintaining proper social distancing from others.
We also must not forget the various advisories the Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force has issued regarding what to eat to boost our immune systems. Sometimes, even after following all directives, we may still get the virus.
When this happens, we need to have our bodies ready to fight this disease. We all join in prayer for our colleagues who have come down with the coronavirus and wish them a speedy recovery.

Ivory Coast receives COVID-19 vaccines

The COVAX initiative has shipped 504,000 doses of the AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine to Abidjan, the economic capital of Côte d’Ivoire.
This makes Côte d’Ivoire the second African country and first French-speaking country to receive vaccine doses through the COVAX Facility, the World Health Organisation says.
COVAX is co-led by Gavi, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations and WHO. It aims to accelerate the development and manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines and to guarantee fair and equitable access for every country in the world.
Meanwhile, the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said Nigeria’s COVAX vaccine supplies will be on the way soon.
Okonjo-Iweala disclosed this on her official Twitter handle @NOIweala.
She said “Very happy to see first delivery of #COVAX supported vaccines to Ghana. Excited to see more countries following. Nigeria’s supplies should be on its way soon. No trade restrictions or bureaucracy should get in the way.”
In a Twitter post by the World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa – @WHOAFRO on Friday, the agency said 504,000 doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine just arrived in Abidjan.
Recall that on Wednesday, Ghana became the recipient of the historic first shipment of COVAX vaccines.
In a statement jointly issued by UNICEF Representative in Ghana, Anne-Claire Dufay; and WHO Representative to Ghana, Dr. Francis Kasolo, it said the arrival of the COVID-19 vaccines into Ghana is critical in bringing the pandemic to an end.
“The only way out of this crisis is to ensure that vaccinations are available for all. We thank all partners that are supporting the COVAX Facility to deliver safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines to all countries quickly and fairly.
