This was made known by the customs’ National Public Relations Officer (P.R.O) Joseph Attah.

He Isolates the Comptroller General, Ibrahim Ali from all claims of the Alleged Joint Auction, and further stressed out that this was a fraudulent act perpetrated by online scammers to prey on people.

He further explains that this is one of the many scamming schemes done by criminals using Nigeria Customs Service and CGC Ibrahim Ali’s name to draw people in and then being defrauded on Facebook.

He then warns people to never trust anyone creating an online scheme in the name of the CGC or Nigeria Customs Service.

In his Words:

Attah said Customs attention was drawn to a fake Facebook Page with Account name “AbubakarAdamu Mohammed” and a post claiming that the Nigeria Police Force in collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service is auctioning impounded vehicles to interested members of the public.

Attah, a Deputy Comptroller of Customs, reiterated his earlier advise to members of the public to disregard any of such claims by faceless individuals who hide behind the cover of fake identities to commit fraud.

“For many years, we have been disclaiming these criminals who advertise auction employment on social media in the name of the service.

“Bringing names of the office of the CG of Customs and Inspector General of Police into the fraud is only an attempt to make their criminal activities look different this time.

“As usual, we urge members of the public to disregard and avoid them. They don’t represent the services and officers mentioned in their fraudulent scheme.

“I have always advised persons who come across these criminals on social media to ask five questions: One, Why is this auction or recruitment being advertised and discussed outside of the customs office and official website? Two, Why do those promoting it avoid physical meetings with their victims? Three, Why should interested persons in a federal government transaction be asked to pay money into an individual private account? Four, what will it cost you to visit the nearest customs office to verify what you are told on social media? Five, how many persons do you know or have you seen that benefited or successfully completed auction process and took delivery of the advertised item or gotten recruited into the service, as the case may be through such scheme?

“These are the five questions I urge people to ask anytime they come across such online adverts by fake individuals claiming to be operatives of our service online

“We have an official website and verified social media handles where credible information about our activities can be obtained. We also attend to inquiries online and in our weekly television programme on the Network of Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) , called Customs Duty.

“Our feedback segments answer questions on all matters pertaining to the service. We urge members of the public to take advantage of it to verify any information about our service they come across on social media”

“People in doubt about anything concerning us are free to walk into any of our offices nationwide for inquiries and clarifications,”

They arrived en route Romania via Max Air.

This is according to an update by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) on its Twitter handle.

The passengers, numbering over 400 from Romania, landed at the private jet terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by 7:10 am (WAT) via a Max Air flight on Friday. They are mostly students who fled Ukraine to Romania following Russia’s invasion of the Eastern European country.

They were reportedly received by government officials and are expected to undergo documentation after which they will head home and self-isolate in line with the COVID-19 protocols. The Federal Government said they will be given some money to enable them to get to their destinations.

Friday’s flight, which was billed to arrive a day earlier, was delayed as the Federal Government cited a hitch in preparing passengers for the check-in process.

Asides Romania, the pickup flights will evacuate Nigerians from Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary.

Officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier said about 5, 000 Nigerians are eligible for evacuation from the warring region. The country will spend $8.5m on the exercise.

Other flights are expected to arrive in the country in the coming days as nations battle to evacuate their citizens.

Already, several African countries had moved their citizens, mainly students, from the conflict zone. Ghana, Zimbabwe, and South Africa were among the first set of nations to evacuate their citizens amid reports of racism by Ukrainian and Polish officials at the border posts.
